Global Talent Visa Program for Australia- What Immigrants Should Know?

Launched in November 2019, the all-new Global Talent Visa Independent Program attracts the best and the brightest talents in ten future-focused sectors to Australia. As a streamlined pathway, the GTI program allows selected foreign nationals to permanently migrate to Australia and start a new life in Down Under. It’s a priority visa pathway for highly skilled individuals who are distinguished experts of their fields seeking to migrate to Australia.

Currently, the Australian government has allocated 15,000 places under the Global Talent visa stream.

The Formation of Global Business and Talent Attraction Taskforce

To ensure the selection of talented individuals, Australia’s government establishes a whole new ‘Global Business and Talent Attraction Task Force’ that will attract Australia’s brightest minds and boost its economic recovery post-Covid-19.

What is the GTI (Global Talent visa) program?

The Department of Home Affairs will work with Australian universities, industry bodies, and state and territory governments to invite skilled workers and high-value businesses to Australia. Global Talent Officers are usually located in London, Shanghai, Singapore, and Washington DC and promote the program by engaging with prospective applicants, businesses, and industry. They now do this role from within Australia because of COVID-19.

The Department aims to select incredibly talented individuals in one of the seven targeted industries and earn a sufficient salary that meets the high-income threshold criteria. The Department will also select high-performing candidates who have earned Ph.D., Masters, or Honours degrees.

Target Industries

  • Resources
  • Agri-food and AgTech
