New Zealand one-off resident visa offered to 165,000 immigrants

This new visa immigration pathway of a one-off resident visa will make it easier for migrants to move to New Zealand stuck back in their countries due to the ongoing pandemic. Amongst this, many of the skilled health workers whose application process for residence got delayed in the process.

As many as 165,000 migrants were invited to apply for one-off resident visas even after delays in the application process. During the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a huge scale exit of these skilled overseas workers.

In a statement in Wellington on Thursday, Immigration Minister Kris Faafoi said, “We are providing a way forward for our migrant families who have been long disrupted by Covid-19 while ensuring businesses have the certainty they need to plan into the future. We acknowledge the uncertainty and difficulties Covid-19 and our closed borders have caused our migrant community.”

This new visa designs a pathway for residency for immigrant workers who are left stuck because of the pandemic. With the category being launched in December, many of the applications will be granted within a year, according to Faafoi.

This 2021 Resident Visa will be open to many work-related visa holders and immediate family members. Immigration New Zealand estimates that qualified health workers will comprise 5,000 health and aged care workers, around 9,000 primary industry workers, and more than 800 teachers.

Within this purview will also be 15,000 construction and 12,000 manufacturing workers from relevant types of visas, out of which some of them will be qualified for the one-off pathway of visa. This is the reason New Zealand has managed to attract many skilled workers who want to live, work and economically establish themselves in New Zealand. Need to know more?
