Towards Normalcy: Canada to ease border restrictions soon

After a long exhausting fight with the pandemic, the time has come when things are headed towards pre-pandemic levels. The credits essentially go to the vaccination and the prompt decisions by several governments to restrict activities. Though the restrictions were welcomed to contain the virus, they have impacted the masses severely. Canada is one nation whose efforts in fighting the pandemic and effectiveness of vaccination drive is worth applauding.

The Canadian government’s website shows that almost 60% of the Canadian population has been vaccinated with the first dose. With this remarkable achievement, the authorities have started to push towards re-opening the borders. Earlier, the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, announced that borders would remain restricted until 75% of the population is vaccinated. Still, there has been a pressing need from different sections to open the border early.

As per the recent events, the Ottawa’s Government declared that fully vaccinated visitors to Canada would soon bypass the 14-day quarantine rule that includes a 3-day mandatory hotel stay. Alternatively, a negative COVID-19 report on departure and another test on arrival would suffice. The visitor, however, needs to isolate until the test’s result is confirmed.

An important thing to notice here is that the travelers who have received the Canada Health approved vaccines, Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, and Johnson & Johnson, will be given relaxation from 14-day quarantine. However, the list of approved vaccines shall be updated with time, and more vaccines are expected to be added to the list.

Also, Canada’s permanent residents and citizens must stay in a hotel upon arrival for their 14 days quarantine. However, these restrictions may uplift soon. With the opening of borders for non-essential travel, the lost days are expected to be back shortly. People will now visit their near and dear ones, and tourists will cherish their time in Canada.
