What Are the Possible Ways to Migrate To Canada?

Canada is set to welcome over 1.4 million permanent residents between 2024 and 2026, and obtaining a Canada PR (Permanent Resident) visa is one of the key methods for immigration. Going through the process of Canadian immigration is complex and demanding. The journey to successfully apply and gain approval for Canada immigration involves many steps. Moreover, this process can extend over several months or even years.

However, being aware of the available options, including the Canada PR visa, can significantly enhance your chances of a successful immigration outcome, helping you avoid common pitfalls, frustrations, and delays.

Possible Ways for Canada Immigration

The Canada immigration has several programs, and depending on what you are looking for, you can apply for one that suits you the best. Some of the most popular ones are the following:

Express Entry Program The Express Entry program is the quickest way to become a permanent resident in Canada. It’s meant for people with high skills. In this program, they give you points for your job experience, what you’ve studied, your education, and your skills. The more points you have, the better your chances.
Federal Skilled Worker Program This is a specific category within the Express Entry program. To qualify for this stream, you need at least 10 years of work experience in managerial positions, professional roles, or in technical and skilled trades.
Federal Skilled Trades Program To be eligible for this stream in the Express Entry program, you must have at least two years of work experience in a skilled trade. You need to have this work experience from the last five years. Additionally, you need to meet specific language requirements in four areas: speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
Provincial Nominee Program To enter this program, you need to receive a nomination from a Canadian province and meet certain eligibility criteria. It’s important to remember that each province focuses on specific groups, including students, skilled workers, business people, and semi-skilled workers.
Quebec Selected Skilled Workers This immigration program is designed specifically for people who wish to settle in Quebec. To obtain this permit, you need to apply to the Government of Quebec for a Quebec Selection Certificate (Certificat de sélection du Québec, CSQ) and adhere to their specific guidelines and requirements.
Atlantic Immigration Program This immigration program allows you to relocate exclusively to Atlantic Canada, encompassing the regions of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, as well as Newfoundland and Labrador.
Self-Employment Visa You need to show proof that you can work for yourself in Canada and have significant experience in cultural activities or sports.
Start-Up Visa For the Start-Up Visa program, you need to have a business idea that qualifies and receive a letter of support from an organization that’s officially recognized. You also have to meet language requirements, and your business should make enough money for you to live in Canada.

Other Ways to Migrate to Canada

Besides the Express Entry Program, you can migrate to Canada for family or study purposes:

  • Immigration pathway for family reunification: In Canada, you can apply for family reunification if you have a spouse/partner or a parent/grandparent already in Canada. In certain situations, other relatives might also be able to sponsor you.
  • Immigration pathway for study purposes: To get a student visa in Canada, you need to be enrolled in a recognized educational program. Usually, student visas don’t directly convert to work or residence visas. However, once your studies are completed, you can apply for a post-graduation work permit.
