The World Happiness Report for 2021 has focused primarily on the effects of Covid-19 and how people worldwide have responded to it.

The report focuses on the adverse effects of the pandemic or the quality of people’s lives and how governments worldwide responded and dealt with the pandemic. Many countries have done far better than others in the pandemic.

For the fourth year consecutively, Finland has come out on top of the annual list with Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, following second, third, fourth, and fifth positions.

The United States, which stood at 13 five years ago, dropped from 18th to 19th place. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom fell from the 13th to 18th position.

Australia takes its place as the 12th happiest country globally for the second year in a row. This is because the government has provided sufficient economic stability throughout the pandemic. In addition, the post-Coronavirus recovery has had a significant impact on the happiness of Australian permanent residents or citizens .

You can see so many Nordic countries on the list because these countries get commendable support from the governments, especially in crises. Free healthcare, free education, low crime rates, low unemployment, inequality rates, extended parental and annual leave, and the rest of the world benefit from living in these countries.

These countries also prioritize work-life balance, which is one of the key contributors to the happiness index. Moreover, Nordic’s excellent quality of life goes hand in hand with their strong sense of community and civic duty, and these qualities proved more precious than ever. As a result, these countries have most successfully kept Covid-19 mortality rates low and mitigated the economic impact of lockdowns.

“The World Happiness Report 2021 depicts that we must aim for overall wellbeing rather than mere wealth. People must feel secure, safe, and protected. They should have faith in the government, and productive steps must address sustainable development challenges.
