One needs no sponsorship or a prior job offer to apply for the subclass 189 visa stream. You can apply based on your in-demand skills and claiming points for your qualification, work experience, English language skills, and other factors.

One must have an invitation to apply for the subclass 189 visa and secure a minimum of 65 points on SkillSelect.

190 Visa – Skilled Nominated Visa

The Skilled Nominated 190 Visa is another points-tested stream for overseas nationals who are nominated by an Australian State or Territory government. A state nomination for the 190 will help you claim an additional 5 points. To be eligible, you must commit to living and working in a sponsoring state for 2 years after the issuance of the visa.

If you are nominated by a state or territory, the Department of Home Affairs will invite you to apply for the visa.

491 Visa – Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa

The subclass 491 is a temporary visa for skilled individuals who have received a nomination from a state or territory government to live in regional Australia. The nomination can also be from an eligible relative or family member living in regional Australia. The holders of subclass 491 visa can live and work in Australian regional areas for up to five years.

After holding the subclass 491 visa for 3 years, the holder fulfil Australia PR visa eligibility to meet the requirements for a permanent Subclass 191 visa.
