Profile Submitted in Express Entry? Here’s What You Can Do while waiting in the Pool

So, you have lodged your profile in Express Entry System, and now you are waiting for your ITA to come. Sometimes, people are unsure of the results and wonder what they should be doing while waiting in the Pool during the Canada permanent residency process. If you receive an Invitation to Apply, you’ll have 60 calendar days to submit an official application for your PR visa. However, there are various things you can do while waiting for your invitation.

Gather documents for ITA

You have 60 days to submit a complete profile for the PR visa; you must prepare all documents in advance for a smooth application process. These documents are:

Language Test Result

During this time, we suggest you verify the validity of your language test results. Yes, your test results may still be in effect at the time of application submission.

If your test result is no longer valid, you can do the following:

•Retake the test, or
•Apply before your test expires, or
•Refuse the invitation to enter the Pool again. This way, you will be considered for the next draw

Please note that IRCC will reject your permanent residence Canada application if your language test result expires.

Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)

A Police Clearance Certificate is a document that details the criminal record of a person applying for permanent residency in Canada. The certificate tells the visa officer if an individual has ever been arrested. If yes, what was the reason- while that person was living in a specific country/area/state?

If you are applying for Canadian permanent residency from India, you must submit a valid PCC report- issued by a police authority near your area. You need to obtain PCC for every country where you have lived for at least six months.

Obtaining a police clearance certificate is a lengthy process. Please submit the request as soon as you enter the Pool so that you can submit it before the deadline.

Work on your CRS Score

You can try to improve your CRS score to strengthen your chances of receiving an ITA in the next draw.

You can do the following:

  • Leverage the power of Job Bank to get a valid job offer from Canada
  • Use the private sector job board to build your professional network and sell your skills to Canadian companies. You may also send individual emails to potential employers in provinces and territories.
  • Repeat the language test
  • Gain additional skills
  • Enroll in a new course or educational program
  • Obtain more work experience

Constantly update your Express Entry Profile

IRCC gives preference to profiles that sound genuine and are up-to-date. When you apply for a Canada PR visa through express entry, it is your responsibility to maintain the authenticity and accuracy of your information. Keep your profile up-to-date if something changes like job, education, etc. You can update the following types of information:

  • If you switched to a new job
  • Repeated the language test
  • Getting married or divorced
  • Having or adopting a child
  • Studying a new program
