The EUI gives the highest weight age to stability, culture, and environment, followed by healthcare, infrastructure, and education.

Three Canadian cities that made it to the top three are Calgary (tied at no. 3 with Zurich), Vancouver (no. 5), and Toronto (no. 8). Toronto was in the 20th position in 2021.

Calgary, the third-largest municipality in Canada, rose 15 spots since 2021, thanks to its early easing of pandemic restrictions.

The overall ranking for these cities has been impressive due to improvement in general livability conditions in some areas. The efficient vaccination drive against Covid-19 helped improve the culture and environment score compared to 2021. Canada has also scored well in healthcare and political stability. Because of these favorable factors, Canada is seen as a leading immigration destination for foreign skilled workers.

Become a Canadian Permanent Resident Express Entry

Express Entry is one of the most prominent pathways for skilled workers to immigrate to Canada under the following programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker
  • Federal Skilled Trades
  • Canadian Experience Class

The Express Entry system is managed by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada to rank applicants using a Comprehensive Ranking Score System. The system grants Canada visa points to applicants based on several factors, including age, work experience, education, language skills, etc. The highest ranking applicants get an invitation to apply from IRCC.

Provincial Nominee Program

Candidates interested in migrating to Canada may also apply to immigrate to a specific province via a Provincial Nominee Program. All Canadian provinces, except Quebec and Nunavut, run their PNPs to invite skilled immigrants. These programs allow the provincial government to select candidates that will fit the province’s economic and demographic needs well.

Other Options

In addition to the streams mentioned above, Canada runs temporary foreign skilled worker programs, student visa pathways, and visitor visas for those who wish to live in Canada for some time before applying for permanent residency. Having a Canadian work experience also instantly boosts your score in the Canada immigration point’s calculator.

Canada also has business immigration pathways that permit foreign entrepreneurs and investors to set up a new or buy an existing business in Canada. Most of these pathways lead to permanent residency and citizenship in Canada.
