Parents of Australian permanent residents and citizens can apply for the Parent Visa (Subclass 103) to live in Australia as permanent residents. As permanent residents, parents can also work and study in the country, gain access to Australia’s public healthcare system, sponsor the visa applications other family members, and eventually apply for citizenship. For moving to Australia under this visa category, the parent must satisfy certain parameters and follow a simple application procedure.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible for this Australia Parent Visa, the applicant must:
To apply as a retiree, the parent must possess or have possessed a Subclass 405 or 410 visa as on 8th May 2018, and should not have possessed another substantive visa between 8th May 2018 and the date of applying for the Subclass 103 visa.
APPLICATION PROCESS
The parents and the sponsor must complete separate forms, attach supporting documents and include the first fee installment – and send this application package via courier or post to the Parent Visa Processing Centre. The total non-refundable visa fee for the Parent Visa Australia is AUD 6,415, which is payable in two installments.
The second installment should be paid before the visa is granted. Family members can be added to the application before the DHA announces the final decision. The DHA will send a decision in writing to the applicant. If the application is approved, the parent will receive a visa. The visa holder can enter and leave Australia an unlimited number of times, for five years after being granted the visa.
There is no pre-determined processing time for the visa application. However, since several people apply for family migration visas, the waiting period could last for several years – and will be extended further if the visa application is incomplete or contains errors. This is why most parent visa applicants seek the guidance of consultants, who can streamline the process of moving to Australia by filing a strong, complete and error-free application on their behalf.
