Sweden Job Seeker Visa

Sweden Job Seeker Visa – Best Job Opportunities to Thrive in Sweden

Sweden is currently going through a shortage of skilled workers across many sectors. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic further intensified the problem, compelling the government to bring in more professionals for various job opportunities. The work visa requirements in Sweden have pushed the government to design a unique pathway to boost workforce engagement and placement in sectors, such as engineering, manufacturing, healthcare, IT, and many more. This pathway is known as the ‘Sweden Job Seeker Visa’, which permits foreign nationals to move to Sweden without a job offer and seek jobs or explore possibilities for setting up a business for nine months.

The immigration hopefuls from India can apply for the Swedish job seeker visa to search for suitable jobs as per their profile, designation, work experience, and educational qualifications. Once they have searched for a job and secured an offer letter from their Swedish employer, they can apply for a work permit and build their career in Sweden.

Basic eligibility requirements for the Sweden Job Seeker Visa

To qualify for a residence permit to seek employment or start a business in Sweden, you must:

  • have completed studies corresponding to an advanced-level degree
  • plan to seek employment or explore the possibilities of starting your own business
  • be able to support yourself during the period for which you are applying for a permit and have money to cover the cost of your journey home
  • have comprehensive health insurance valid for care in Sweden
  • have a passport valid for the entire period you intend to be in Sweden (if your passport is about to expire, you should extend it because you cannot get a permit for longer than your passport is valid)
  • Currently be located outside of Sweden.

Usually, Indians who wish to seek job opportunities abroad find it challenging to secure a job before moving to the targeted destination. More often than not, things don’t usually go as planned, causing a major setback for such aspirants. The Sweden job seeker visa, which was implemented on 1st of June 2022, allows prospective migrants an ideal route to Sweden without a job offer.

What is an advanced level degree?

As mentioned-above, to apply for a Sweden work permit, you must demonstrate an advanced degree. Your degree will be considered as advanced level, if it corresponds any of the following:

  • a 60-credit Master’s degree,
  • a 120-credit Master’s degree,
  • a professional degree worth 60-330 credits, or
  • A postgraduate/PhD-level degree.

Moreover, you are also required to show a letter granting the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) the right to contact your educational institution to validate and review the educational documents submitted by you.

The Swedish Migration Agency sends your documents to UHR to evaluate your education level. This permit is the first step towards the job seeker visa.

Processing time

If all documents are satisfactory and in order, you will be granted a permit for at least three months for no more than nine months.

If the permit is issued for over three months, you will receive a residence permit card. The card is evidence that your stay is valid in Sweden and features your fingerprint, photo, and other relevant information related to your visa.
